MudTech-1

With our technical associates, Texas OilTech Laboratories offers Drilling Mud Analysis to service the oil exploration and production industry.  Central to the health, efficiency, and productivity of the wellsite is its stability.  By analyzing the drilling mud, we can ensure that the wellsite is well-kept by the surrounding natural or synthetic conditions imposed.

The primary purposes for analyzing drilling mud and drilling fluid at wellsites is not only to prevent an excessive waste of gas, but also to provide enough stability to the system so as to prevent potential blowouts.  The surrounding drilling mud must maintain a consistency that is conducive to the motion and pressure that is associated with oil production.

Texas OilTech Laboratories, in partnership with our technical associates, provides a full suite of drilling mud analysis to ensure that the mud-laden fluid is neither too thick to impose an obstacle to drilling, nor too thin to produce sufficient viscosity. The consistency of the drilling mud is a key proponent to the success of the wellsite, as it serves as the very foundation needed to support exploration and production.

Drilling Mud Analysis On-Site

As part of Texas OilTech Laboratories’ drilling mud package, we combine our efforts with our strategic partners to also include sampling and testing for oil production projects and sites. Indeed, often samples of drilling mud are sensitive to time and climate, so a more sophisticated understanding of the particular fluid is needed.

MudTech-2

Drilling mud parameters often contingent on location.  For example, many water-based muds are found naturally, often in coastal areas.  Testing packages for these muds are relatively straight-forward, whereas many oil-based muds, used for special purpose drilling, also need more specialized forms of sampling and testing.

TOL is prepared to support field analysis of drilling fluids with our extensive in-laboratory capabilities, as well as on-site dependent on location.  We offer procedures for field tests that might bring better resolution or improved Limits of Detection (LOD) to a given analysis.

Some important areas of study include:

  • High temperature-High Pressure Rheological Studies
  • Evaluation of Fluid Loss Content Agents
  • Mud Inhibitor Studies
  • Water-Based and Oil-Based Drilling Fluids
  • Solids Control
  • Evaluation of Corrosion Inhibitors
